Thierry Henry
After being unsettled at Italian football club Juventus, Wenger paid £11 Million to bring Thierry Henry to Highbury. Henry replaced Nicolas Anelka, whom the Arsenal manager had sold for more than £20 million; this eventually proved to be great business by the Arsenal manager. Wenger converted Henry from a good winger to a world class centre forward. His outstanding performances for Arsenal during the 2000/01 season earned him the accolade of PFA Young Player of The year. His most successful season in front of goal undoubtedly came during the 2003/04 season, collating a total of 30 premiership goals and 9 other goals in cup competition, resulting in a total of 39 goals, enough to earn him the European Golden Boot in 2004 and help Arsenal once again win the premiership. In the 2004/05 season he earned the European Golden boot for the second year running and the Premierships top scorer for the third occasion. In 2005 Henry surpassed Ian Wright to become Arsenal’s all time record goalscorer. |
