David Seaman
English goalkeeper David Seaman began his career at Peterborough United, later having two and four year spells at Birmingham City and Queens Park Rangers respectively. He was signed by George Graham in 1990 replacing Lukic in the Arsenal goal.Widely regarded as one of the best English goalkeepers of all time he won three league titles at Arsenal as well as the league and European Cup Winners Cup. Seaman was nicknamed “safe hands” for obvious reasons. He played in the 1998 and 2002 world cups for his national team, although he suffered embarrassment in the latter due to an ever fortunate Ronaldinho free-kick helping knock England out from the competition.
Ian Wright
English striker Ian Wright was a fan’s favourite at Arsenal. Following a 6 year spell at Crystal Palace scoring 89 goals in 229 appearances he was signed by Arsenal in 1991 at the age of 26 for a then club record £2.5m fee. He scored on his debut in the league cup against Leicester city and impressively scored a hat trick in his Arsenal league debut against Southampton. He scored 24 goals in 30 games in his first season at Arsenal winning the golden boot. In 1997 he eclipsed Cliff Bastin’s all time goalscoring record for Arsenal. He helped Arsenal win the League and FA cup in 1993, European Cup Winner’s cup in 1994 and the league and FA cup in 1997.
In 1998, towards the end of his career, Wright left Arsenal to join fellow premiership club West Ham for £0.5M. Ian Wright scored 9 goals in 31 games for England. |
