The 1990 -1991 season was a huge triumph for manager, George Graham and Arsenal as they won the league title and only suffered one league defeat the entire season. Not everything ran smoothly in the league within regards to discipline as a 21 man brawl in an encounter against Manchester united resulted in a two point deduction for the Gunners.
The Arsenal defence was outstanding through out the season, a famous back line emerged which included, Nigel Winterburn, Lee Dixon, Steve Bould and Tony Adams. Recent signing, David Seamen was in great form in goal after moving from QPR. Arsenal boasted one of the finest up front partnerships in Europe with Alan Smith and Paul Merson scoring the goals for the Gunners. Arsenal memorably met their North London rivals; Spurs in the FA cup semi final and lost in a Paul Gascoigne inspired match 3-1.
Arsenal failed to emulate their success of the previous season the following year as they finished off in a decent fourth place. The arrival of Ian Wright at Highbury proved to be the pleasure of the season. Arsenal were on the back end of one of the most embarrassing FA Cup defeats during the 1990’s as they lost to Wrexham, a club who at the time were bottom of the football league, by 2-1. Ray Parlour made his debut during the 1991-92 season in a week day match against Liverpool mid way through the season.
The 1992-1993 season was a success within regards to the domestic cup competitions however they were poor in the league. Arsenal finished the league season off in 10th place in a season that saw the arrival of Martin Keown at the club. The Gunners enjoyed the cup competitions and became very familiar with Sheffield Wednesday by the end of the season. They defeated Wednesday in the League cup final and met them once again in the final of the FA Cup. The Gunners were forced to a replay against Wednesday as the first match ended all square. In the replay, Steve Morrow proved to be the Arsenal hero as the gunners defeated Wednesday and he scored the winning goal.
