Arsenal 3-0 Liverpool

This match was a thrilling encounter that saw Arsenal take an advantage over the Reds in the league. Mid way through the first half, Paul Davies took a corner which was headed clear, however Michael Thomas volleyed a fierce shot that Bruce Grobbelaar saved and then Paul Merson fired home the rebound to put Arsenal 1-0 in front. Two minutes into the second half, Nigel Winterburn threaded a long ball into the penalty box to Andreas Limpar who was brought down in the box by Gary Gillespie. Lee Dixon smashed a powerful penalty into the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Liverpool made substitutions, however it could not change the pattern of the match as Paul Merson and Alan Smith combined for a brilliant strike by Alan Smith to seal a fine 3-0 victory for the Gunners.

Manchester United 6-2 Arsenal
Date Played – 28th November 1990

In the first minute of the league cup encounter, Clayton Blackmore scored with a strong, low free kick from outside the penalty box to make it 1-0. With two minutes remaining of the first half, Danny Wallace raced into the box and cut the ball back for Mark Hughes to net in Unites second and make it 2-0. On the stroke of the first half, Lee Sharpe scored fine strike to make it 3-0 to Man United. Arsenal stormed back early on in the second period as Michael Thomas powered in a shot into the back of the net which flew over  the goal keeper Les Sealey. Alan Smith netted in Arsenals second mid way through the half as he poked the ball home after a fine delivery. With fifteen minutes remaining, Manchester United took control as Lee Sharpe nodded the ball into the goal to score his second of the night. With ten minutes remaining, Lee Sharpe completed his hat trick and the Reds went 5-2 ahead.
