Martin Keown
English defender Martin Keown began his senior professional career at Arsenal in 1984, having a loan spell at Brighton before being sold to Aston Villa and later playing for Everton. Keown re-signed for Arsenal from Everton in 1993 for a £2M fee. Keown went on to become a legendary centre back for Arsenal making 311 appearances, helping Arsenal to a number of titles including two doubles in 1998 and 2002. Keown was released on a free transfer in 2004. Keown made 43 appearances for England.
Tony Adams
In his 18 years at Arsenal Adams made himself into a legendary centre back. Adams made his debut for Arsenal in 1983 against Sunderland as a 17 year old. He was made Arsenal skipper in January 1st 1988, the youngest ever at only 21. Adams remained captain till his retirement in 2002. He helped arsenal win their two league and FA cup doubles in the late 80’s. In the 90’s Adams suffered alcohol problems, was involved in fights and was charged with drink driving and imprisoned for 3 months in 1990. Adam’s managed to reinvent himself following the arrival of Arsene Wenger and release of his autobiography; in 2000 he set up a charity to help fight various addictions. In total Adams made 504 appearances for Arsenal and scored 32 goals. Adams had a successful England career making 66 appearances and scoring 5 goals. |
