The 1965- 66 season proved to be the last one with Billy Wright in charge at Arsenal. The campaign proved to be a debacle for the Gunners, as they finished the season off in 14th position, in turn making it Arsenal’s worst league campaign in 41 years since 1925. They were poor in the FA cup, only managing to reach the third round, suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat against Blackburn Rovers.
Bertie Mee was installed as the new manager of Arsenal in 1966 and he went on to spend 10 years in charge at Arsenal. The Gunners made a considerable improvement in the top flight as they finished the season off in seventh place. They reached the fifth round of the FA Cup, suffering defeat against Birmingham City. David Court, Jim Furnell and George Armstrong were all in outstanding form for the Gunners during the 1967- 68 season, however it could not lift the Gunners high in the league as they finished the season off in ninth place. Mee guided the side to a huge improvement during the 1968 -69 campaign as the Gunners finished the season off in a strong fourth place.
The 1969- 70 season proved to be a debacle for Arsenal as they could only manage a disappointing 12th place finish. They were no better in the FA Cup as they were knocked out in the third round, suffering a 3-2 defeat against Blackpool. They were knocked out of the Milk Cup (league cup) in the third round, losing 1-0 against Everton.
