Swindon came into the final as leaders of the third division and Arsenal were hot favorites to win this match. Arsenal came back in the second period and in the 86th minute, substitute George Graham delivered a pass into the Swindon box, for Bobby Gould to score to level the proceedings. During extra time, Swindon ripped apart Arsenal’s fading defense. On the stroke of half time, a pass from Penman evaded the mass of mud soaked bodies in the penalty box before arriving at the feet of Rogers and assisted to Deftley to fire it in the back of the goal. Swindon ensured victory in the last minute of the encounter as Don Rogers scored his second goal of the game. |
